In a room
An in-person visit lets you discuss the concern face to face. Ask what an exam can add and whether the visit can assess the problem that matters to you.

- Could the decision change after an exam or test?
- Who handles any follow-up?
Across a screen
With telehealth, the care happens remotely: by video, by phone, or through written messages online.
Will you speak with a doctor, or with a different health professional? Ask how questions go back and forth, and allow time for more questions about your problem.

An online visit may need an in-person step
Medical-board guidance says a doctor giving care from a distance must arrange any needed tests or send the patient for an exam when one is needed.
Check permission to practise where you are
A patient's location during a visit determines the state whose permission the doctor needs to practise, according to U.S. licence guidance checked on 26 September 2026.
The state may accept its own licence or a different kind of permission.
Get the name in full of whoever will provide your care. For a doctor, find the state medical board and check the public licence record.
A care route is not permission to offer KPV
Compounding means making a medicine to order for an individual need.
As of September 2026, an ordinary U.S. pharmacy could not make KPV to order for a named patient. A pharmacy group had asked FDA to allow KPV as an ingredient, then took that request back. The withdrawal itself granted no permission for pharmacies to use KPV.
The ingredient rules still apply. Read those rules before treating a proposed prescription as proof that a KPV offer is legitimate.
